The Full Length of the Malvern Hills

This full-day challenge follows the entire Malvern Hills ridge from north to south, taking in 15 peaks and continuous elevation gain. It is a demanding but achievable route for fit walkers, with spectacular views across Herefordshire, Worcestershire and Gloucestershire throughout.

Challenge Highlights:

  • Duration: Approx. 6 hours
  • Difficulty: Strenuous, requiring good fitness
  • Features: Explore Bronze Age hill forts, steep but manageable terrain, and ancient geological wonders

Route:

  • Begin at North Quarry Car Park and climb steadily onto the ridge, reaching End Hill and North Hill, where wide views open across the Severn Plain. Continue south over Sugarloaf Hill to the highest point of the range, Worcestershire Beacon.
  • From here, the route undulates along the exposed ridge to Jubilee Hill, then on to Herefordshire Beacon, home to the Iron Age hill fort known as British Camp. This is a natural halfway point and a popular rest stop.
  • Continue south over Broad Down and Hangmans Hill, before climbing Swinyard Hill and Midsummer Hill, where ancient earthworks can still be seen. The final section crosses Raggedstone Hill before the last ascent to Chase End Hill, marking the completion of the challenge.

The Ultimate Malvern Hills Experience

V. Strenuous

This all day 21 mile endurance challenge covers the entire Malvern Hills ridge twice, delivering sustained climbs and over 6,000 feet of elevation gain. Designed for experienced walkers with excellent fitness, it offers a true physical and mental test.

Challenge Highlights:

  • Duration: 8–12 hours
  • Difficulty: Very Strenuous, demanding excellent fitness
  • Features: Explore Bronze Age hill forts, steep but manageable terrain, and ancient geological wonders

Route:

  • Begin at Chase End Hill and follow the ridge north over Raggedstone Hill, Midsummer Hill and Swinyard Hill. Continue past Hangmans Hill and Broad Down to Herefordshire Beacon, home to the Iron Age hill fort known as British Camp.
  • The route then climbs Jubilee Hill and reaches Worcestershire Beacon, the highest point of the Malvern Hills, before continuing over Sugarloaf Hill, North Hill and End Hill to North Quarry Car Park, the halfway turnaround point.
  • Return south along the same ridge, re climbing each peak before the final ascent back to Chase End Hill, where the challenge ends.
