National Three Peaks Challenge for Cancer Research: A 24-Hour Triumph

In 2016, a determined team of adventurers took on the ultimate endurance test—the National Three Peaks Challenge—to raise funds for Cancer Research UK. Led and organised by Mark Stancer of Your Adventure Challenge, the team of Sonia, Ross, and Scott embarked on the demanding 24-hour timed challenge, summiting the highest peaks in Scotland, England, and Wales. Their grit and determination paid off as they successfully completed the challenge, raising an incredible £2,000 for a cause close to their hearts.

The Challenge: 3 Peaks, 24 Hours, One Goal

The National Three Peaks Challenge is a true test of endurance, covering nearly 27 miles of hiking, over 3,000 metres of ascent, and driving between three countries—all within 24 hours. This challenge is not for the faint-hearted, but Sonia, Ross, and Scott were up for the task, pushing themselves to their limits in support of Cancer Research UK.

Ben Nevis – The Mighty Beginning

The adventure kicked off at Ben Nevis (1,345m) in Scotland, with Mark leading the way. The team set a strong pace up the UK’s highest peak, battling through unpredictable mountain weather to reach the summit before making a rapid descent. With the first peak conquered, there was no time to rest—the team jumped straight into the minibus and headed south towards England.

Scafell Pike – A Nighttime Ascent

Arriving in the Lake District under the cover of darkness, the team tackled Scafell Pike (978m) with head torches lighting the way. Night hikes add an extra layer of challenge, requiring focus, careful footing, and sheer determination to keep moving despite exhaustion creeping in. With Mark’s expert guidance, the group navigated the rugged terrain efficiently, summiting and descending in time to make the final leg of the journey to Wales.

Snowdon – The Final Push

The last challenge was Snowdon (1,085m) in Wales. Fatigue had well and truly set in, but with the finish line in sight, Sonia, Ross, and Scott dug deep for one final push. With Mark leading the way, they ascended Snowdon as the first light of dawn broke over the Welsh mountains—a stunning and emotional moment. Reaching the summit was a triumphant end to an exhausting but deeply rewarding journey.

A Challenge Completed, A Cause Supported

After 24 hours of relentless effort, Sonia, Ross, and Scott successfully completed the National Three Peaks Challenge, raising an impressive £2,000 for Cancer Research UK. Their achievement was not just a personal milestone but a powerful statement of support for those affected by cancer.
