On the 25th September, Your Adventure Challenge had the pleasure of guiding 47 brilliant fundraisers on The Hive Youth Zone's very first Peak to Paddle Challenge, a demanding day of mountain climbing and canoeing to raise vital funds for young people across Wirral.
The challenge brought together teams from Hill Dickinson LLP, Langtons, The SeaKing Group, Parker Kelly Financial Services Ltd, Rathbones, Finsa and Vextrix for a day that tested everyone's strength, stamina and teamwork. The Hive is a purpose-built youth zone in Birkenhead for young people aged 8 to 19, and up to 25 for those with disabilities or additional needs. Its goal is simple: that every young person on the Wirral has somewhere to go, something to do and someone to talk to.
The day began with the climb up Snowdon, Wales' highest mountain. The teams tackled the tough, rocky paths to the summit, pushing each other on with plenty of grit and encouragement. But reaching the top was only half the job.
From the mountain, the teams headed to Lake Bala, where they swapped walking boots for paddles and took to tandem canoes. Racing against the clock and the setting sun, they worked in pairs to get across the lake, finding a rhythm on tired arms after a long day on the hills.
It was exhausting, sometimes stressful and a real challenge in every sense of the word. Everyone pushed themselves well outside their comfort zones, and there was no better way to end the day than with a drink by the lakeside, watching the sun go down over Bala.
Supporting Wirral's Young People
Every pound raised through the Peak to Paddle Challenge will help The Hive keep providing opportunities, support and safe spaces for local young people.
The Hive offers more than 20 activities six days a week, from a rooftop football pitch, climbing wall and skate park to music and dance studios, a boxing ring and a training kitchen. Every young person who walks through the doors is supported by qualified youth workers, who help with everything from mental health and healthy relationships to careers and building new skills. For many young people in Wirral, The Hive is a place to belong, grow in confidence and look to the future.
The final fundraising total is still to be announced, so keep an eye out for the update. We already know that this team's effort will make a real difference.
