Full Day Challenge
Discover the Brecon Beacons at their best
This classic circular mountain route takes in four of the Brecon Beacons’ most iconic peaks, delivering a tough yet rewarding hike with continuous ridge walking and far reaching views across the National Park.
Challenge Highlights:
- Duration: 5-7 hours
- Difficulty: Suitable for all experience levels, reasonably good fitness
- Features: Explore mountain paths, grassy ridges, and unique and awe-inspiring experiencesÂ
Route:
- The challenge typically starts from Neuadd Reservoir or Storey Arms Pont ar Daf, climbing steadily onto the main ridge. The route is commonly completed clockwise, reaching Fan y Big first, known for its wide summit and dramatic outlook.
- From here, the ridge continues to Cribyn, a steeper and more defined peak, before rising to Pen y Fan, the highest mountain in South Wales. A short descent and final climb leads to Corn Du, marked by its broad summit and historic cairns.
- The return leg descends from Corn Du via well defined lower paths, looping back to the start point to complete the horseshoe.
